Disenchantment

I’m feeling a little glum about my atheiart.com site. When you put so much effort into a project yet people don’t understand it and think I’m vulgar or a hate mongerer it’s a little frustrating. It has made me rethink things and I reckon half my problem is the Jizzus Christ as part of the sites identity.

Of course people wont have any idea that it’s a tribute to John Allegros work on the Dead Sea Scrolls. People will just think it’s vulgar and in bad taste, but there is more behind the concept, the vulgarity was not intentional, it’s just how it the design worked out based on the truth.

So I’ve been sitting around pondering if I’m a crap person for creating these designs, but then I look at them and don’t see any lies so it’s a bit confusing.

I wanted to make people curious to seek the truth from the designs I made, not put them off with out second thought, but the vulgar designs are too intellectual as weird as that sounds.

Story behind the T-Shirt design > Loser Pope

Well this one is pretty simple. I grabbed a picture of Pope Fuckwittbenedict, found a royalty image of a girls hands doing the L symbol (yes the loser hands are female – probably explains the slimness of them, however, if we actually ARE to believe the pope never wanks he could have pussy hands anyways).

So too easy, plugged pope fuckhead into CR8tracer program to vectorize – I didn’t have adobe CS3 on my computer at that stage, only at work – my Catholic employer gast, deep breath, will inform everyone in later when I don’t mine or my husbands job to lose (2 months till FREEDOM FUCK YEAH). Getting back to CR8, it vectorizes bitmap images.. then I open as eps in Illustrator and color in the details.

This is one of my most popular designs because it isn’t as offensive as others, people feel calm walking down the street in this and not getting the shit beaten outta them.

I have requests to do more humble take the piss designs which I am looking into. I am a hardcore bitch so I find it hard to come up with concepts of such… any suggestions leave me a comment, it will be much appreciated! :)

Comments? I just don’t get it.

Story behind the T-Shirt design > Church Flying Spaghetti Monster

This t-shirt, although not especially special, gave me a happy “click” in the head feeling. I hadn’t been bouncing ideas off my husband too much as he was yet to get the ‘banksy’ impression – and well ‘one hit in your face’ without thinking concept. So I proud of it.

Working at a Catholic school (hahahahaha – read the backlog somewhere on this blog as to WHY?!) I drove up to the kitchen and grabbed a plastic pasta claw from their kitchen to photograph.

I then searched the internet for photos of a priest or bishop holding a crozier via google images. It took me a while to find a decent photo, like about 30 page search into google images, and I came across one I could use.

I didn’t want to use the face of the person of course, so the actual head of the dude holding the spaghetti claw is a photo I took of my best friend Lachlan. I was worried when I showed him the design (coz he is as savvy a prick as I am) that he might want royalties from it! I showed my idiotic (love you lachy) mate the design at least 3 times, and he DIDN’T even recognize himself as the FACE!!!

So I finally told him. My usual suspicion under estimated our 11 year friend ship and he thought it was fantastic and wanted to buy one! So I offered him non-profit rates.

I wished to start a new blog (outside my MySpace blog) to purely focus on, and draw focus to religious issues. I target mainly Christianity because they are the abundant idiots among me daily. So without further ado, look forward to some t-shirt designs which are available on Printfection and Cafepress.

I introduce you to these designs:
